Biotechnological Detoxification of industrial waste

Current R&D Activities:
Presently engaged in bacterial degradation and detoxification of industrial waste i.e. distillery waste after anaerobic digestion, pulp paper mill waste and pyridine, picoline raffinate. One national patent already has been filed for bacterial decolourisation of anaerobically digested distillery effluent at laboratory scale. While another patent has been filed on a cost effective chemical process for formaldehyde removal from pyridine containing industrial wastewater for environmental safety. Further, the work is in progress for scaling up the biological decolourisation of anaerobically treated distillery effluent by wetland plant treatment system after bacterial degradation at pilot scale. This work is under way for patent application. The work is also concentrated for comparative bioaccumulation potential of heavy metals by wetland plant in constructed wetland system. The effect of melanoidin, phenol and sulphate in distillery effluent degradation and toxicity is also studied in detail. The potential bacterial species are identified by biochemical and molecular methods (16Sr RNA). The metabolic characterisation of maillard product degradation by LC-MS, HPLC and 1HNMR is under way.

The isolation and molecular characterisation of potential bacterial species for degradation of Penta-Chloro Phenol (PCP) and lignin from pulp paper mill waste for safe wastewater recycling is in progress for patent application. We are also expertise for isolation of bacterial strains form water, soil and food sample.
